I know that I am new in this area, and I have only been hosting the Miniature Dragon: Comic Review for 6 months, but I am truly humbled to be a part of this creative endeavor. I have been (way in the past because I am old) a comic fan, and at one point in my youth (we shall call this 22 or younger) that I was seeing the same story over and over and that the hero was never in any real danger. At this time, the indy comic industry was in its youth and I was not introduced into it. Gone were the days of heroes dying or becoming the bad guys, gone were the days of villains becoming good or even the lines being blurred, it was now “here is this power they never knew they had that will now save the day”. Superman went from being able to jump over skyscrapers to being able to fly, Captain America no longer has peak physical strength and biology but superhuman. Then I was introduced to indy comics, that could kill their heroes and let the bad guys win, that old feeling coming back.
I tell you all that to tell you, when Woody asked me to co-host the Miniature Dragon: Comic Review because I was no longer reading comics, I was excited. Through him and Alex, I now get to meet new creators, feel new stories and read about new heroes or anti-heroes. I was introduced to my now favorite comic series Rat Queens, and get to go on other adventures and not least, able to understand how comic books, trade paperback (new term I learned) and Graphic Novels come into being. I am amazed anyone wants to hear my side of reviews (our content being watched 100’s of times) and that they would be supportive.
As we try new things and make this bigger and more watched, I am humbled that we want to. As you support these awesome content creators, know that it is more humbling of an experience then any of us thought possible.
Keep it Nerdy, and Live Your Dreams,
